Each fall, the Greenwood Education Foundation and Greenwood Community Schools host Highlight Mental Health Week, a time dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of mental health, reducing stigma, and ensuring students know where to turn for support.
This year’s events will conclude with a Community Tailgate on Friday, September 12, 2025, from 6:00–7:30 p.m. at Greenwood High School, before the varsity football game. Families are invited to enjoy food, games, and activities, and to connect with local organizations offering resources that promote both mental and physical wellness.
September is recognized nationally as Suicide Prevention and Awareness Month. Suicide is the second leading cause of death among high school-aged youth, yet only about half of young people with a mental health condition receive the treatment they need. Early support can make a life-changing difference. The goal of Highlight Mental Health is to spark conversation, share resources, promote awareness of 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), and encourage young people to seek help when they need it.
Throughout the week, Greenwood High School students and clubs will lead student-centered activities, serving as mental health ambassadors for the student body. Their leadership helps normalize conversations about wellness and creates a culture of hope and support across the school community.
Join us on September 12th to celebrate student leadership, connect with local resources, and show your support for youth mental health. Together, we can make a difference.
