Gearing Up for Ongoing Support: GEF Cares Launches School Supply Drive!

Remember the days of back-to-school shopping? It was always exciting to pick out a new backpack, maybe one with your favorite color or covered in pictures of cute animals. Those simple choices marked the start of a new school year, filled with anticipation and promise.

But for many families today, this experience can be bittersweet. As we celebrate the joy of new school supplies, we must also recognize the reality faced by those who struggle to afford them. At the Greenwood Education Foundation (GEF), we believe every child deserves to feel that excitement, regardless of their financial circumstances.

Supporting Students Throughout the Year

At GEF, our Cares team understands that the start of the school year often brings generous support through events like United Way's Fast Track where students in need receive backpacks filled will free supplies. But as the months go by and supplies wear down, many families face a challenge: the need for ongoing support.

Tiffany Woods, President of the Greenwood Education Foundation, notes, "The GEF Cares team communicates closely with our teaching staff to hear the needs our students face. Many teachers were telling us of the expense they were paying out of pocket for basic supplies such as pencils and paper second semester." Paired with the fact that prices can rise once the "back to school" rush is over, making essentials harder to afford, the GEF Cares team decided to step in.

Be the Difference: Join Our Drive

From July 8th to July 29th, we invite you to join us in making a difference. Donation bins will be located at several local businesses throughout Greenwood:

  • Jockamo Upper Crust Pizza

  • Everwise Credit Union (Meijer & Worthsville Rd. branch)

  • Raymond James

  • Faraday Toys

  • The Energy Spot (Meridian Park location)

  • Storm Chiropractic

Your contributions, whether big or small, will directly benefit local students during this often-overlooked time of need second semester. Together, we can ensure every child has the supplies for academic success! To make a monetary donation towards this cause, you can visit:
